Colour theme

Sticking to a strict colour scheme works well for a cohesive look. Mix materials, though, adding glass and metallic objects for visual interest.

The zigzag

Create visual balance by zigzagging your

hero pieces. Larger

objects will ground the groupings and give each one space to breathe.

Simple stacks  

Neat piles of books or magazines can make real visual impact. Vary the heights for interest but keep them perfectly straight or the finished look will be messy and less effective.

The three­height rule

A rule of thumb is that things look better grouped in odd numbers of three or five. Vary the heights – tall medium and short – for each grouping.
